I’ve been playing guitar on and off for over 30 years. In 2024 I started learning more about guitar setup and customization, and found that I really enjoy tinkering around with guitars. What started as some simple upgrades (a new bridge, new locking tuners, etc.) turned into a rabbit hole of learning about how to level frets, finish necks, and ultimately build a guitar from all of the different parts out there.
As I started looking into building guitars, the biggest problem I found was that I don’t have enough space for all of the guitars I want to build. I soon realized that there are likely charities who could use these guitars more than me, and hopefully the work I’m doing as a hobby could possibly improve the life of someone else who wants to learn how to play the guitar, but doesn’t have access to one or can’t afford to buy a new one.
In searching for charities that may be interested in guitar donations I also found someone in the same boat as me – Patrick from New Joy Guitars seemed to have a similar passion for building guitars and also a desire to give them to those in need. Seeing the success he has had helped give me the final push to move forward with Good Day Guitars, and to write this blog about the process as well.
If you have any feedback, questions, or ideas for charities that may be looking for guitar donations (preferably in the Washington, D.C./Maryland/Virginia area for easy delivery) please email me at gooddayguitars@gmail.com.
Thanks!
